Getting Started with Your JioPhone

The JioPhone is designed to bring affordable 4G connectivity to first-time smartphone users in India. Its simple interface, durable keypad design, and built-in Jio apps make it a capable device — but setting it up correctly from the start ensures you get the best experience.

What's in the Box

  • JioPhone handset
  • Removable battery
  • Micro-USB charging cable
  • Charger adapter
  • User manual (in regional languages)

Step 1: Insert the SIM Card

The JioPhone uses a standard SIM card slot located beneath the back cover. To insert your SIM:

  1. Remove the back cover by gently prying it from the bottom edge.
  2. Lift out the battery.
  3. Slide your Jio SIM into the SIM tray with the gold contacts facing down.
  4. Replace the battery and back cover.

Note: Only a Jio SIM works in JioPhone. Other operator SIMs are not supported.

Step 2: Power On and Initial Setup

Press and hold the power button (top right edge) for 3 seconds. The device will boot up and prompt you to select a language. Choose your preferred language — JioPhone supports Hindi, English, and several regional Indian languages.

Step 3: Activate Your Jio SIM

If your SIM is newly purchased:

  1. Dial 1977 from the JioPhone to initiate activation.
  2. Follow the automated voice instructions.
  3. Activation typically completes within a few hours, though it can take up to 24 hours in some areas.

Once activated, you'll receive a confirmation SMS and your JioPhone will connect to the 4G VoLTE network automatically.

Step 4: Connect to Wi-Fi (Optional)

While JioPhone uses 4G data by default, you can also connect to a Wi-Fi network:

  1. Go to Settings using the menu key.
  2. Select Network & ConnectivityWi-Fi.
  3. Toggle Wi-Fi on and select your network from the list.
  4. Enter the password using the keypad and press OK.

Step 5: Set Up MyJio App

The MyJio app comes pre-installed on your JioPhone. Open it from the app menu and sign in with your Jio number. This app lets you check your data balance, recharge your plan, and manage your account — all from the phone itself.
